Not a fan of the three day weekend

I remember what three day weekends used to mean: Sunday night was another night to go out. If I decided to work on Monday I got time and half and an extra paid day off.

Now three day weekends just create an additional day when I attempt to entertain my kids without my husband around, there is no US Mail delivery, and Nickelodeon may preempt its normal programming for a Teennick marathon.

Plus I had a migraine today, so I had to skip the gym. And it was about 85 freaking degrees, again.

On the bright side, Henry had a friend over this morning, and he finally found someone besides his sister who is willing to jump around like crazy in his bedroom listening to Devo.

On the brighter side: another Trouser Press entry for Peter Bjorn and John.

Columbus Day is probably the weakest federal holiday there is.

But I love having the extra day.

Even if it's more exhausing than being at work.

There's very little benefit for an architect on Columbus Day. Free parking at the city meters, but I ride the bus so even that wasn't that great.

Do I need to kidnap you for a week to kick the migraines out of your brain?

I always think of Columbus Day as the federal holiday that celebrates my birthday.

I made a special point to call the mayor's info line to make sure the meters were free, then I drove to work (gloriously alone in my air-conditioned bubble!) and found after 15 minutes of circling that there wasn't a free space to be had.

I ended up paying $14 to park in the garage. Dammit.

P.S. Happy Birthday Aunt Bob!!
